Sampdoria has reiterated its position regarding the December 6, 2021 criminal proceedings involving ex-president Massimo Ferrero for fraudulent bankruptcy.
In an official statement, the Blucerchiati reiterated that he was not involved in Ferrero’s proceedings and strongly denied news that appeared in some Italian media alluding to an alleged bankruptcy of Sport Spettacolo Holding, the club’s parent company.
These are the words that appeared on the official Sampdoria website:
“UC Sampdoria informs that it will protect, in all necessary ways, its image which has been seriously damaged by unfounded and false news published recently by some media. As informed by lawyer Luca Ponti, legal adviser to UC Sampdoria in the proceedings which recently implicated Mr. Massimo Ferrero, the club is completely independent of the facts notified to Mr. Ferrero and this has been confirmed by all legal proceedings concluded to date.
The club will react firmly to any dissemination in the media of unfounded information, such as the alleged bankruptcy of the clubs’ parent company Sport Spettacolo Holding, a circumstance objectively non-existent and easily verifiable. Any attempt to destabilize our club based on media speculation will be pursued immediately.”
Massimo Ferrero was arrested on December 6 for fraudulent bankruptcy and placed under house arrest on December 23. He immediately resigned from the presidency of Sampdoria. No involvement of the Genoa-based club in the case has emerged so far.
